Planting Day

On the 20 August Room 4 drove up to the hills with some fantastic parents and a fantastic teacher to plant 500 plants. When we arrived Mr and Mrs Thoroughgood told us about the plants and told us not to touch the fences because they were a electric. We started to walk to where we were to plant the trees. We had to cross a plank of wood to cross the ditch. The farm was so muddy that when we walked to plant the trees Chris got his boot stuck in the mud so Mrs Thoroughgood helped him out. When we finaly got there Sue told us how to plant the trees. It was so muddy in the paddocks that everywhere you went your boot would get stuck in the mud. This is how Sue told us to plant the trees. First you dug your spade into the ground and wiggled it back and forth and did that four times left, right,up and down and dug it out of the ground. Then you would cut the lump of mud into little pieces, place the plant in the hole and pad the mud in. There was about 4 different plants (flax, kiquyou) and some other ones. It took about two hours to plant the trees. At one o'clock we had lunch. The chickens tried to grab the lunch off the plates. One of the chickens jumped onto Chris's lap and it wouldn't hop off. At about two o'clock we had to go back to school. We had a great time at the Thoroughgoods place planting the trees that we had been growing since they were babies.

At half time we were wining. When the buzzer sounded we were off. This time it was Orewa's turn to start with the ball. In the end we won.We won the second game too. The third game we drew.

Skipping For The Heart Foundation

This term we have been skipping to raise awareness for the heart foundation. We have got loads of different moves including the ski and the bell.We also have one where we stand back to back with one rope and skip over it together sometimes we even try to touch the ground and turn around while skipping. We have a technique where we join our ropes by holding one handle of your rope and holding one handle of your partners rope your partner does this too and then you are linked while you are linked try and skip together if you make a mistake start from the beginning again and see if you can get to the end of your track without making a mistake. We also do double dutch and jumping in.We have really enjoyed doing this in our class and we have learned so much.
